Santa Monica Pier

In April 2024, I met my painting group one morning at the Santa Monica Pier to do some plein air painting. The weather was typical for spring in California. It was sunny but cool enough to wear a light long sleeved coat. We set up our easels at random spots on the pier. Some of us were chased by security for being in the spots marked for vendors. I found a view of all the people having fun and was able to setup out of the way of traffic.

My subject was a wide view of the pier with all the people, buildings, and railings. I used photo references later to add detail and corrections. I think it turned out well in that it really shows the colors and the hustle-bustle of the pier.
