Lake Balboa

The bones of this painting I did en plein air at Lake Balboa in Encino, California. I painted with a new plein air group and we had some ‘incidents’ from the pigeons in the trees. I always carry heavy duty towels and pink brush cleaner for times like those. I included the branches of the trees extending across the sky like fingers.

This is the finished painting. I call the style Invert Cloisonnism. I was going to do the Pointillism dots over it, but I think, for now I will leave it this way.

If I was painting in central California the sky color would be accurate.

  1. Interesting colour palette for a plein air. I like the inclusion of that shot of green in the centre.

    1. Thank you! I did it to see if the colors were inverted would they still make something harmonious.
