Today I finished a painting from my family archives. It is based off a picture of my aunt when she graduated. My grandmother wanted to memorialize the moment with my aunt posed next to an icon of southern California suburbia, the swimming pool. The picture is bizarre because of the stark composition and the fact that my aunt is expressionless in the photo. I think both factors left the color and design options open for expression in the painting.
